Saturday

So we had to make the most of a heavy downpour and got out river paddling on a local classic run, the upper duddon! Minor carnage ensued on the last grade 4-5 rapid with a tree blocking most of the river. This meant instead of running an easier line we had to take a dodgy looking line down the right hand side just avoiding the tree. Fi went first, the river was more powerfull than we thought and she got pushed left and slammied her left chest into the produding tree branch, very painful. James ran it second, with the same thing happening, but he got vertically pinned by his chest halfway down the drop. This was one of the scariest moments on a river ever experienced for both of us. It took about 4 minutes for James to get unpinned, with a range of attempts.

We are happy we are both in one piece and all kit still there. Think we are going to take everything a bit more cautisiously from now till our New Zealand depature date.

Sunday

Strong westerly winds blowing over the last few days had caused 8-9foot surf to come about at a spot called St.Bee's , despite us both been sore from yesterday's epic, we decided to head out into the surf for the day!

Due to the fact our creek boats were still tied to the roof of the car, we decided to take them surfing instead of our sea boats. Much more fun in a smaller boat!

Many unintentional cartweels, backloops, mashings, frontflips, rolls were had ... as well as some great surfs i should add!

3 and a half hours of solid paddling tired us out nicely!!!
